Abstract

Excellent public service requires workers' professional skills. One of them is being able to communicate in English. Therefore, tourism and hospitality training provide practical development to speak with foreigners in tourism destinations. The study uses observation, role-playing, and focus group discussion. Forty government employees participate in the program. The findings show the community problems in communication that aim to develop as international tourism destinations. It also indicates role-playing as an effective way of learning in real-world situations to comprehend how to speak. Furthermore, focus group discussion provides the workers’ opinions toward the training. English for public service improves the way workers communicate with visitors, changing the way they speak to effective and appropriate techniques to welcome and guide visitors. It is aimed at improving the service quality and the knowledge of hospitality training to equip the community to be more skilled and professional in their career.
